HAVE YOU LOST LUGGAGE(S) WHILE TRAVELING WITH ANY AIRLINE?

Seated in an aircraft soon after the plane has taken off the voice you hear would be the Pilot "Welcome on board XYZ Airways flight A58 with Captain Edward your Pilot/King Co-pilot. This flight takes five and half hours. We expect to land at Heathrow airport 7 pm local time. As soon as we get to a convenient level you'd be served your meal. Thank you for flying XYZ Airline". Typically while the announcement was going on you take a quick inventory of your check-in labels, tickets, receipts and others boarding documents. And you assured yourself that everything is in place ready for your landing and smooth check out. Very often this presumption becomes an illusion. During one of my trips to and fro abroad as a student, I lost luggages that I claimed for. Unfortunately, it did not only take a long time to process but I also failed to recover anything including the cost of pursuing the remedy. The lost luggages, airline and claims were domiciled in Nigeria. Unless you take direct flights to your destination chances that you lose your luggage(s) and you file lost luggage claims at their customers service department or call center. How to make claims for luggage(s) lost while traveling with an airline. Airlines are responsible for lugages of their passengers using tracking systems. Make sure you have your ticket numbers, receipts and baggage labels intact. According to Washington Post report from January to September 2019 2 3 million bags were either lost or damaged. During the same period in 2021 the figure was 1.36 million Although luggage policies of airlines differ, most of them pay compensation 24 hours after the report of the missing luggage. The sum may be cost of checking the luggage, contingency expenses or the value of the lost luggage but don't expect the market value. Some airlines pay $50 a day for the first five days of reporting the loss. The airlines are under obligation to pay monetary compensation for delayed, lost or damaged luggages, which may be up to $3,800. However, international flights have different rules applying to them even though their liability may as high as $1,780. The bargain of airlines could higher but not compellable by law. In 2007, Mr Prince Ikem Orji passenger of China-bound Emirates Airlines lost his hand luggage containing$1.63 million cash. When the airline failed to trace it the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the airline to pay the sum lost to him. Does that add to your travels knowledge? Okay, don't take these for granted; your position is enhanced by purchasing insurance cover. Please if there's any airline's passengers care/services that have exceeded the standards adopted in this report DM such updates. Safe journey God is in control. Ikechukwu O.
