GLOOMY, SCARY AND UNPREDICTABLE FUTURE

This episode was half way when I was struck by sudden ill-health... now recovering at God's speed.

Right and wrong decisions are based on resources and information at your disposal, right?

What if you garner vital resources from messages and digital gifts we serve on this platform, and suddenly it becomes extinct.  Wouldn't that affect your decisions? Maybe.

We thank  you for the loads of 'likes'. However, your feedback about the quality and social value of our messages is ABSOLUTELY important to us.

We'd be delighted to receive your comments: approve or not approve whichever is welcome.
.......

Over the last couple of days energy crisis in Europe has worsened due to the escalated war in Ukraine.

As was expected, the economic impact multiplied globally giving rise to high cost of living and hunger in Africa and especially Nigeria, as a result of food shortages.

Clips from the 2022 G20 meeting in Indonesia, paints a picture of imminent catostrophy across the world, unless stringent actions are taken urgently.

Leaders of the group prescribed: "recover together, recover stronger" as a global solution.

But how could that happen as situations worsen. Rather than recovering:

Nigeria's inflation rate has been on steady increase too, since 2020 according to the report of National Bureau of Statistics.

Nigeria has become world capital of poverty, a position prior held by India. Now, 133 million Nigerians are in the bracket of "Multi-dimensional Poor."

Mortgages and share prices are crumbling to level of its comparison with 2008 global economic melt-down.

Education sector is crumbling with no solution in sight. It is so scary that the Education Committee of  UN at the last UNGA77 raised alarm with a call to action.

"A silent learning crisis is unfolding that has become devastating shock to human capital. ... We urge you the world leaders, to meet this head-on and act to improve learning outcomes for the world".

Our mission on this platform is to propound ideas that provide solutions and move our projects to the next level.

What's your take and approach to excel?

"HOW NOT TO LOOSE YOUR DWELLING HOUSE AFTER 25 YEARS"

is a Report to guide you to become an owner occupier from 2023 rather than remain/live as tenant for life.

We invite everyone passionate about innovations and prosperous ideas to quickly join our group to get the report.

Or DM us indicating interest to receive the report.

With gratitude.

SKILLS ACQUISITION TRAINING

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributes to the growth of prosperity. It serves to promote healthy and socially responsible causes that impact positively.

Recently due to ailing economy and resultant hardship, politicians and public figures have come under intense pressure to assist their constituencies and communities. Of course by the nature of public offices they occupy, they're morally obliged to notice the underprivileged, indigent and dilapidating environment and take action.

How they respond depends on who they are; nature of services they render to the people and mindset.  Very often the temptations to respond through cash donations or promissory notes become irrisistible. Yet, some public officers who have aides get over some of these public relations engagement with the communities in different ways.

One of the various engagements is occasionally organising empowerment skills acquisition training for selected groups across the community.

You can leverage on our  Skills Acquisition Training Program to empower the youth, unemployed persons and retrain already working people in your constituencies/communities. Your benefits are innumerable.

Let's start with visibility. The nature of services public officers render, their venue and personalities remain opaque to some huge percentage of his/her constituents. That doesn't help loyalty, comradeship, trust and brand identity building. All that change with the launch of our training program.

The other benefit which cash donations alone cannot replace is the fact that training is seed sowing with unlimited quantity ahead. Whereas cash donations shared by few hundreds or thousands are usually for economic relief and consumption.

CONSTITUENT PROJECTS
Honourable, pause a minute to take a retrospection of various celebrations you've had: birthdays, anniversaries, thanksgivings etc. Did you consider using any of those past occasions to promote CSR? If you did the benefits would have been yours.

Now that you've gotten ideas next time you're going to engage in any or all of those activities you may wish to secure our services. It's pretty affordable because we also serve communities in one way or the other.

THE FUTURE AND YOUR VISION

Your ideas about how you would be in the future is your vision. It's often the best one would wish him or herself.

About this time of the year we begin to take stock of our activities and results so far and adjust here and there.

Call it decision, guide or resolution, whatever you may call it, the purpose is to be properly directed for a desired result.

A humble beginning like most of us have is just a stepping stone. To continue on that level, to say the least is not being ambitious.

Who among you now a tenant wants to remain so for life? If it doesn't cost anything to dream, no one would choose to remain at the 'humble beginning' level for life.

That inert desire humans have for better tomorrow is the reason why you're reading this business message. Here's a report:

HOW NOT TO LOOSE YOUR DWELLING HOUSE AFTER 25 YEARS is a Report to guide you to become an owner occupier, from 2023 rather than remain/live as tenant for life.

We invite everyone passionate about innovations and prosperous ideas to quickly join our group to get the report.

Or DM us indicating interest to receive the report.

Getting better daily is our mission.

The internet is like a big ocean. Swimming, surfing, fishing etc - these activities unguided may lead to wasteful soujourn.

Thanks.

PUTTING OUR ACTIVITIES IN PERSPECTIVE

We warmly welcome those of you that have just joined.

We also welcome your introduction and comments.

We're gradually approaching the end of the year when we

take stock of our activIties and mission during the year.

From online mentor, Matt Maurice quoting another

mentor on the need to ask stock-taking question more

frequently suggests this apt question:

"If every person in my organization personally

produced at the level I personally produced at

this month, would my team be exploding with

growth?"

If the answer is no, you have only one person to blame for your team’s lack of duplication - you!"

I tried the question and in all honesty felt ashamed.

Wait a minute...

We started with Workshop titled "Overcoming Common Challenges in Business Environment"

And discussed:

1. Capital formation

2. Resources/Raw materials

3. Record keeping

4. Infrastructural base

5. Training - Publishing

6. Compliance with regulatory authorities

The workshop, even though poorly attended was for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

According to a statistical analysis SMEs form the backbone of Nigeria economy by generating about 96% of businesses in the economy.

The secret of efficient management of SMEs according to Eric Uwaoma, director Enterprise segment, Etisalat Nigeria is networking of IDEAS.

In line with networking of ideas we intensified the campaign online and just picking up as the year ends.

The challenge now is to ensure that the period between now and the end of the year positive trends would climax our training for 2023.

The part you'd play to make this aspiration realizable cannot be overemphasized.

Your inquiries are welcome. DM as soon as possible as a new batch of training commences very soon.

Your success.

HUSHPUPPI JAILED IN US - BBC NEWS

#corporateleaders
Ikechukwu Odoemelam Esq

"A notorious Instagram influencer from Nigeria has been jailed for more than 11 years in the US for his role in an international fraud syndicate.

Hushpuppi, whose real name is Ramon Abbas, was also ordered to pay $1,732,841 (£1,516,182) in restitution to two victims.

The influencer rose to fame flaunting his wealthy lifestyle on his page, which boasted 2.8 million followers.

But it all came crashing down when he was arrested in Dubai two years ago.

According to Don Alway, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles field office, Abbas had - behind the glitz of his account - become "one of the most prolific money launderers in the world".

"Abbas leveraged his social media platforms... to gain notoriety and to brag about the immense wealth he acquired by conducting business email compromise scams, online bank heists and other cyber-enabled fraud that financially ruined scores of victims and provided assistance to the North Korean regime," Mr Alway said in a court document on Monday.

Abbas pleaded guilty to money laundering last year, admitting attempting to steal more than $1.1m from someone who wanted to fund a new children's school in Qatar. Court documents in California say he played a key role in the scheme, playing "the roles of bank officials and creating a bogus website".

He also admitted to "several other cyber and business email compromise schemes that cumulatively caused more than $24 million in losses", the US justice department said.

Among them was a 2019 scheme, which plunged the European island of Malta into chaos as payment systems shut down after he tried to launder €13m ($13m) stolen by a gang of North Korean hackers from the Maltese Bank of Valletta."

LOOMING GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS REVEALED

Every part of the globe is complaining of a common

ailment - currency crumbling. Of course we'll spot the

ailment as economics.

A subject that affects everyone. Lots of arguments as to

solutions  That also involves almost everyone offering

free. opinions.

From elementary economics we know the roles of CBNs,

that it includes monetarism and demand management.

Rising inflation has spread and become palpably present

in the global economy. Consequently most nation's CBs

reacted similarly by raising rates. Rates influence cost of

borrowing  and that way passed on to the consumers.

It was miscalculation arising from inflation that led to the

fall of Liz Traus' UK government formed on the basis of

substantial tax cuts.

Bank of England's response was unprecedented raise of

interest rate that threw the economy out of balance.

On Friday 28/10/2022 USA Federal Reserve raised rates

by 75 basis points, the highest it's been since 2008.

Sequel to that, an extraordinary meeting was held in

Washington, November 2, 2022. In attendance were the

Federal Reserve, Comptroller of currency, IMF, World

Bank and Governors of Central Banks of African

countries.

The issue agreed upon was US monetary policy that from

31st January, 2023 only recent $ currency from 2021 will

be in circulation and acceptable. The implication is that

currencies bearing earlier printing dates would become

unacceptable.

You see the cloud of economic uncertainties surrounding

us? Just as stated above, everyone everywhere is

involved as global economic crisis looms.

Any remedy in sight? Not in the nearest future. But to be

aware of developments and maneuvers IDEA WORKSHOP

has step-by-step guide as to how not to fall victim.

The report will be valuable asset for your entire business

and social life through the year and armed to enter 2023.

DM for interest to receive the report.

Your success.

NIGERIA START-UPS ACT 2022

Ikechukwu Odoemelam Esq
#corporateleaders #digitaleducation #digitalskills

The end of the second 'ember' month of 2022.  My opinion, if you ask,  is that the cup is half-full not half-empty.

So today a glinpse at a WEEK OF DIGITAL ENTREPRENURSHIP.

It started with the coming into effect of Nigeria Start-ups Act 2022 earlier.  The object of the Act is to enhance innovations and creativity.  Everyone has something to benefit from the Act.  Think about digitalized professionalism.

Reports say it's the largest Digital Economy in Africa. Of course it should, going by population and size of Nigeria's economy, as well as the depth of digital connectivity.

Digital Economy Industry Working group (DEIWG) has been inauguarated. The purpose of the the platform is to instigate public-private dialogue.

Thereafter Lectures were organized to dissect the scheme and generate ideas for successful implementation. You need to search for the resources and you'd see that so much is in stock for the public, especially entrepreneurs.

For those in Advanced Digital Content Creation, it would be a field day.  Common pools of legal resources would no longer be for high profile law firms and businesses only.

Right now construction of Digital Economy complex that would house Nigeria Start-ups is on the way ..   and speedily too.

The wake up call is for every digital minded people and entrepreneurs to start taking advantage of the provisions of the Act.

A very good and valuable opportunity if you ask me.

That's why at IDEA WORKSHOP we've arranged basic digital Start-up skills that beginners would use as foundation for a meaningful online business adventure.

Stop procrastinating, reality is inside of you. Just say you can.

Our mission is to provide the opportunity for you to start implementing those ideas you've been nursing without results.

The pertinent component to this

OnlIne streams of income, e-commerce,

some of the activities you legitimately

ICT contribution to GDP has been on the

report it was 24.72% at the 1st quarter

of 2020, 17.92% in 2021, 18.44 in the 1st

With the youths and stakeholders

making sufficient input into the outcome

of the Act, it's bound to be a welcome

phenomenon.

ACHIEVE MORE WITH INTENTIONAL DECISIONS

#corporateleaders

Welcome new members. If you join IDEA

WORKSHOP, it's a thumb up for

entreprenurship.

Entreprenurship is calculated dreams...

..one of the prescriptions by experts

to rescue world economy showing signs

of recession.

Minister of Communications and Digital

Economy, Dr Isa Pantani announced that

Nigeria Startups Bill has been passed

into law - a boost to entreprenurship.

During recessions everything becomes

small, shrinked and valueless.

American musician, Ryan Shupe said,

"dream big if you want to dream;

because it might come true."

Entreprenurship is limitless, and also

known world over to be the shortcut to

wealth creation.

Embracing entreprenurship is usually a

difficult decision if you've been working

all your life and suddenly jobs begin to

elude you. Funny enough, most of the

jobs you apply for through physical office

addresses are now available only online.

What's more, you need online skills to

get them.

You see what my message is all about?

If you're one of those seeking bridging

skills to transform DM us for a guide.

Some stranded ASSU strike students

have acquired this bridging skills and

are now working online as they resume

after the strike.

These books are available for $0.99 for

those of you commencing our program on

ECONOMIC STRANGULATION PREDICTED FOR NIGERIA

Former CBN Governor and dethroned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi attended Kaduna Investment Fair.

His call for the balkanisation of NNPC stole the show. It was no hold bared, and forthright.

Nigeria's indebtedness analysis was scary and horrifying.  Every amount of income earned by FGN henceforth would be used for servicing loans alone - no savings!

Recurring expenditures like salaries would be funded through borrowing.

This came on the heals of dollar sharp rise against other currencies especially Naira N700 fetches $1. Unbelievable.

You don't need to be an economist to know that the survival of ordinary individuals like you and I is seriously at stake.

Do you see any solution on the horizon? Jobs have taken flight already. What else?

YOU!  That's the only thing left...

DECISION.

Are you one of those seeking some rewarding escape routes out of the imminent economic strangulation?

STEP into 2023 with solid one or two skills that could liberate you from the hardship politicians cannot cure.

Just DM interest. We'd guide a few serious interested individuals how stranded ASSU strike students are now making reasonable income and ready to go back to school.

EVERY ECONOMY THRIVES ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

#corporateleaders

Nigeria is again at the penumbra of transition having run full circle of the constitutional limit of democratically elected government. Despite the slogans and policies put in place for agriculture, food production and prosperous nation, it's on record that Nigerians have been empoverished, with close to 80% of citizens living below poverty line of $1 a day.  There's high inflation with 2015 as a base.

Check the cost of living indices from 2015 to date; what do you find? The common man's staple foods cost as much, if not more than their imported substitutes, that you begin to wonder the sense in banning their importation when we're not ready with domestic supplies. Frustrated consumers become induced economic saboteurs and short changers, although some are deliberate. Earnestly there's a case of cutting the nose to spice the face.

The political class don't seem to have a clue as to how to change the trajectory that brought the economy to where it is right now. Repeating the same trajectory and hoping for a different result?  Doubtful.

THE STORY OF ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT:

The level of food crisis in Nigeria today has necessitated the sad story of this fallen hero of entreprenurship. Entrepreneurship and leadership often emerge from crisis and emergencies like Kentucky fried chicken global food vendor. Kentucky is one entreprenurship venture that makes US economy thrive.

Until his death October 2022, USMAN ABUBAKAR RIMI was a Final-Year Medicine and Surgery student of Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto, UDUS and an indegene of Rimi LGA in Katsina State. According to Umar Idris, Chairman of 21st Century Entrepreneurs Hub and an ally of the deceased, Rimi had leadership and entreprenurial spirit, and was the Katsina State coordinator of 21st Century Entrepreneurs Hub. It was in that capacity  that he coordinated the Global Entrepreneurship in 2019 and 2020.

As a result of the prolonged ASSU strike, the entreprenurial spirit drove Rimi to establish Food Vending/Indomie joint at the diplomat area of Sokoto state to earn income as the strike action continued. It could only be someone with the entrepreneurial disposition like Rimi that did that. I was pained to read of his demise just days before going back to school to graduate. What a monumental losses!

COUNTING THE LOSSES

As ASSU calls off the eight-months old strike which has paralysed education sector and  the economy apparently the time to commence counting the losses inflicted by the behemoth has come.

At the just ended United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77) the President of World Bank group hit the nail on the head when he aptly observed:

"A silent learning crisis is unfolding that has become devastating shock to human capital.  We need to work to prevent further damage and build more effective systems. We urge you the world leaders, to meet this crisis head-on and act to improve learning outcomes for all children everywhere"

If you extrapolate that to Nigerian situation you'd find a devastating blow not only to the students and their financial losses, but also a blow that has thrown the Federal Government off balance.

Certainly this is a tough time for all the stakeholders in this prolonged strike action requiring each of them to mitigate their losses.

Our sympathy is always on the students and their sponsors for going through the rough road. Yet, there must be something to fall back on......

One or two skills acquisition training should have been completed during that period of discontent and unproductivity.

Some of the students that took advantage of our training program are better equipped than their counterparts.

You're welcome to DM and find out details of how to keep learning even when you've been stopped from continuing by circumstances beyond your control.

WOULD YOU PREFER WORK FROM HOME TO PHYSICAL WORK PLACE?

Your answer should not be that of your colleague or neighbor. The reason is not farfetched. Location, commute,  circumstances, motivation, ambiance, lifestyle, rewards etc influence choices and options.

However, the debate about hybrid workplace options has been raging as an off-shoot of global onslaught against COVID-19 pandemic. While in real life (IRL) has remained the traditional, capitalist model and the status quo, a new model work culture was birthed as a result of lockdown and other policies put in place globally to combat COVID-19 which came to be known as the new normal.  Therefore it became 'new normal' for employees or everyone to avoid traditional businesses/workplaces, yet perform work activities at home.

It also became new normal for companies and employers to provide alternative office space and tools, appliances and devices to their employees who have been 'forced' to work from home. Work from home is fast becoming adventurous floodgate which some companies like Spotify has adopted for their employees across the globe.

This phenomenon has increased the advent of work-at-home syndrome that has become 21st century lifestyle and work style. Whether part-time or full-time, more and more people are opting to work remotely.  This feature has been commended as a measure of social progress and necessary component of thriving entrepreneurship.

Different comments and analysis have been proferred for and against each option and a hybrid of options. Where do you stand in all of these?

The poser has been graphically constructed thus:

In Real Life (IRL) V. Remote work, striking a balance.

IRL has more stress and distractions; less productive than remote work. Raises issues of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. IRL has propensity to induce toxic staff relationships. Decision about suitable options requires surveys, feedback and open discussion not in a silo. However, different hybrid options for different companies.

On the other hand who cares if you have more than one job .. that doesn't breach any labour law, unless specifically prohibited by a particular contract of employment.

Imagine working from home, applied for maternity leave; spent the period and just one morning got management email welcoming you back to work, then you resume at home...

As a result of these changes taking place technological innovations are reflecting these choices. In other words whichever option you make would surely have it's economic value with it.

We all have the inert ability to learn, grow and develop. Don't be a victim of the negative consequences of the changing work model.

How ..?

If your employers adopted work from home policy and you haven't upgraded your digital skills, guess what happens ...

We at IDEA WORKSHOP are offering you work from home training to equip you with relevant skills at your pace and convenience. DM for details.

SKILLS, TECHNOLOGY AND COMPENSATION

#corporateleaders

SKILLS, TECHNOLOGY AND COMPENSATION

The shabby treatment of Immigrant workers in Qatar has drawn world's attention. These guys offered their services to prepare qatarworldcup2022 and were not adequately rewarded.  Some of them skilled, others not but the shame's uncalled for.

This is coming after 'Future of Jobs Report, World Economic Forum' that about 50% of all employees will need reskiling by 2025, as the adoption of technology increases.

Quite pathetic you may say.  Keep emotions out. See, it's either you reskill and be abreast with technology, or wither away or be treated shabbily.

Get this shocking fact straight.  In the next Mundiale these unskilled workers would have no chance or services to offer.  Reason: technology would have decimated the number of human contribution needed.

So lots of teaching to erase  Tech-knowledge deficit. That brings to fore teaching jobs needed and that's why today, 5th October every year is celebrated as World's Teachers Day. Don't miss the opportunity to join our teaching group on this platform.

You can access digital skills acquisition training at IDEA WORKSHOP where we teach various niches that suits you,  available to earn steady income in today's digital economy.

THE CONSTANCY OF CHANGE

#corporateleaders

Just got up, and not quite feeling to start my daily routines but a glance at the headlines jolted me.  "Elon Musk displaces Jeff Bhezeos to become the world's richest person".

I thought that's expected. Who wouldn't foresee that, in these days when fluctuation in Bitcoins price makes you the richest in the morning and perhaps poorer in the evening.  A lot of people have been the legendary number 1, but change kept them where you find them today. Then a snap. Later in the day, having read full report a few more issues came to my mind.

For instance unconfirmed media reports revealed that Jeff Bhezeos just had a divorce, which took about $43 billion alimony to his erstwhile spouse.

Wealth creation and philanthropy are close associates. The former is usually the products of enterprise, economy and heritage.  While the latter is as a result of acts of benevolence due to sympathy for humanity, causes and or desire to change the status quo positively.

Virtually everyone likes to associate with individual and human progress. It satisfies human desires, as well as boosts egos and social status. In response society and communities celebrate the the wealthy, the rich and the affluent. These phenomena are corroborated by Hollywood, Nollywood, Bollywood and other 'wood' video films.

While some pursuit of wealth creation are strictly profit maximization endeavors, which don't allow dilution of that goal, others deploy some chunk of the wealth to humanitarian and developmental causes. This latter act is corporate social responsibility.

Acts of corporate social responsibility is like caring for those you met while ascending the ladder, because you might need them when you're descending.

Corporate institutions' response of competition is just natural. Everyone likes a jolly good friend. Every business entity as much as individuals, would like to be seen on the scoreboard of corporate social responsibility.

Therefore the convention of ranking them and their donors by Bloomsberg, Forbes, Fortune etc. emerged. The desire, the tempo and clamor to be recognized went high.

It has become part of our social life and for some a lifestyle to check 'whoruns' to find out who change has made the richest and watch for him/her to be replaced the next morning.

Today, it has become the norm for the richest persons to be evaluated according to their acts of corporate social responsibility, even though that affects their ranking.  Perhaps that explains why Bill Gate's name has been missing for some time now.

WORLD TOURISM DAY

#corporateleaders

This year's World Tourism Day was celebrated on 27th September, 2022 with the theme 'Rethinking Tourism'.

Unless you're in an employment, for most of us taking a vacation doesn't sound real, especially when you have to travel with some luxuries.

But for quite a lot of people in entrepreneurship, vacation and tourism are part and parcel of the enterprise. Imagine working for two-thirds of the year and spend a third touring and enjoying life. It's possible. Unluck your entrepreneurial mindset.

It would shock you to discover why it takes almost a lifetime to start what mentorship should have achieved for you, if you had opted for it earlier. Afterall many successful entrepreneurs still have the urge to go for one mentorship program or the other.

Participate in our skills acquisition training that commences on 4th October, 2022 and discover how far you'd have gone.

Your progress.

HAVE YOU LOST LUGGAGE(S) WHILE TRAVELING WITH ANY AIRLINE?

Seated in an aircraft soon after the plane has taken off the voice you hear would be the Pilot "Welcome on board XYZ Airways flight A58 with Captain Edward your Pilot/King Co-pilot. This flight takes five and half hours. We expect to land at Heathrow airport 7 pm local time. As soon as we get to a convenient level you'd be served your meal. Thank you for flying XYZ Airline". Typically while the announcement was going on you take a quick inventory of your check-in labels, tickets, receipts and others boarding documents. And you assured yourself that everything is in place ready for your landing and smooth check out. Very often this presumption becomes an illusion. During one of my trips to and fro abroad as a student, I lost luggages that I claimed for. Unfortunately, it did not only take a long time to process but I also failed to recover anything including the cost of pursuing the remedy. The lost luggages, airline and claims were domiciled in Nigeria. Unless you take direct flights to your destination chances that you lose your luggage(s) and you file lost luggage claims at their customers service department or call center. How to make claims for luggage(s) lost while traveling with an airline. Airlines are responsible for lugages of their passengers using tracking systems. Make sure you have your ticket numbers, receipts and baggage labels intact. According to Washington Post report from January to September 2019 2 3 million bags were either lost or damaged. During the same period in 2021 the figure was 1.36 million Although luggage policies of airlines differ, most of them pay compensation 24 hours after the report of the missing luggage. The sum may be cost of checking the luggage, contingency expenses or the value of the lost luggage but don't expect the market value. Some airlines pay $50 a day for the first five days of reporting the loss. The airlines are under obligation to pay monetary compensation for delayed, lost or damaged luggages, which may be up to $3,800. However, international flights have different rules applying to them even though their liability may as high as $1,780. The bargain of airlines could higher but not compellable by law. In 2007, Mr Prince Ikem Orji passenger of China-bound Emirates Airlines lost his hand luggage containing$1.63 million cash. When the airline failed to trace it the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the airline to pay the sum lost to him. Does that add to your travels knowledge? Okay, don't take these for granted; your position is enhanced by purchasing insurance cover. Please if there's any airline's passengers care/services that have exceeded the standards adopted in this report DM such updates. Safe journey God is in control. Ikechukwu O. MIKHAIL GORBACHEV: A LEGENDARY LEADER

Leaders emerge through crises and times of uncertainty. Though late erstwhile Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev never contemplated to dissolve USSR as a communist ideological block against the free-market world, he inadvertently did so ultimately. He could have chosen for USSR to continue in isolation and remain at cold war with the West and entire market economy OR liberate over 700 million Soviets stuck with national pride intoxicated by obselete communist ideology that was heading towards a third World War. Through the process of series of legislation he ended cold war; brought USSR into the mainstream of market economy of the entire world, a dream Sony, Pepsi and Visa failled to realize earlier on. That was what most people were proud of him, among all his achievements. Like many visionary leaders going through phases of challenges, he articulated his thoughts about how to resolve them to achieve national growth, development and transformation. Since communist administration and economy were by their nature closed and controlled by a central and ideologically monolithic undemocratic government, he thought that demolition of citizens' mental barriers would create a huge support of the people for it's forthcoming policies. This idea of transparency (Glasnost) had totally been absent till then. Glasnost, is the equivalent of freedom of speech, information and association in a democratic environment. You must realise that these 'freedoms' were luxuries in the communist enclave during the cold war. Glasnost changed the narratives. When citizens became excited by this novel instruction he introduced his book titled 'Parastoika' - restructuring. All his experiences from the Politburo to the delegate of deputies and Presidency created by him and occupied only by him were documented. This 'restructuring' were necessary changes coming from a visionary leader. The thrust of the changes prescribed was that the future of USSR belonged to the youth. By that book he sentenced communism to death. Of course glasnost which had become powerful vehicle of mobilisation enabled the ideas and disseminated the policies, not only within USSR but also eastern Europe that had been under communist rule and the rest of the world. Like a bridge linking two isolated communities, Mikhail Gorbachev's presidency ended communism and supervised Soviet's transition to free market economy. It was not without a price. His actions of being a pro-West good fellow created enimies. He stepped on powerful toes of the elite of the Soviet establishment. At a time he was under house arrest with his family. As a consequence the fall of Berlin wall, communist Eastern Europe block followed suite and the rest is now history. Adieu comrade. Ikechukwu O. DO AIRLINE INSURANCE COVER TRAUMA?

DO AIRLINE INSURANCE COVER TRAUMA? Ikechukwu Odoemelam Esq A few days ago one of my learned friends that attended the Bi-Annual Bar Conference held in Lagos, escaped death when their aircraft accidentally developed malfunctions and later figured out a safe landing. After thanking God for the rare escape, it quickly reminded me of similar incident that I went through in one of Nigeria Airways flight in the '90s. A Lagos-bound flight that took off from Port Harcourt airport began to loose height gradually. When the pilot made the announcement it wasn't quite audible so I couldn't comprehend what the issue was. Passengers close to the cockpit were talking to each other. I was busy reading one of the in-flight magazines and wasn't perturbed. When I saw that a lot of passengers were talking to each other I looked out from the window and saw that we were cruising past towns, houses airview. Even at that time it never occurred to me that that was the aircraft's inability to gain height, a symptom of crashing. Shortly another announcement was audibly saying about to land at Port Harcourt airport where we took off. In few minutes we landed safely and there was this mad rush by passengers as if the aircraft was catching fire. Now at Port Harcourt airport what next? Don't talk about refund of ticket fare; I was so restive that I couldn't ask what rights I had over ticket fare. The following day was census day in Lagos, if I could not fly into Lagos before the next day I wouldn't have been counted. Flight shortage became real because of failed/postponed flights and safety regulations. Hustling and struggling for next available flight ensued. By this time we've spent hours after our aborted flight and it's already evening and passengers were sorting out how to spend the night. Suddenly a small contractor flight came from Lagos as last flight. I didn't know how he got the hint that Lagos-bound passengers were stranded since afternoon. The pilot decided that any passenger willing to get to Lagos that night should get on board. That's how I got the noisy flight without any light with about seven passengers. Knocking at a Lagos gate leading to residential area about midnight could only be by a desperate individual who narrowly escaped death through two rickety aircrafts. I never thought about remedies because dead men don't have the luxury of what is available for the living. Today my friend's encounter reminded me to ask, all these hassles from airlines do their insurance coverage include physical/psychological trauma? I made few searches and found that none of the insurers offer such cover. However, Arik insurance came close to answering my inquiry, not sure 'medical expenses' includes trauma. But the detailed finding is as follows: "The policy provides cover against accident resulting in damage to baggage, missing bags, flight cancellation and delays, medical expenses, permanent disablement or bodily injury, within 90 days of the occurrence of the accident. A passenger whose flight is cancelled or delayed for more than eight hours gets N20,000 per trip. Emergency medical expenses attracts up to N50,000, while mishandled and missing baggage will attract N20,000 per passenger." Please if there's any airline's passengers insurance coverage that's richer than Arik's DM such updates. Safe journey God is in control. Ikechukwu O. EPITOME OF CSR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN ALUMINA

Copied "The acting Dean of Medical College, University of Ibadan,Prof Adebola Ogunbiyi ,invited all the old students who are now doctors produced by the college to a zoom meeting. The reason for the meeting was not farfetched. The professor was sick with worry about the infrastructure decay and rot at the medical college she oversees in Ibadan. She is aware that the Nigerian government is too broke to fund it, so she came up with a master stroke, which was to tap into the resources and social capital of the alumni produced by the medical college scattered all over the world to give the medical college a facelift. A Zoom meeting was fixed on Monday, two days ago, and the link was sent to the former students of the medical college. Starting off the meeting, Prof. Ogunbiyi narrated the challenges and plight the current medical students at the college are facing. The current medical students of the college need a new hostel and their classes also need to be refurbished. The acting Dean of the college ended her speech by appealing to the alumni of the college to support her in rebuilding and restoring the lost glory of the medical college. Her speech opened the floodgates of donations from the medical doctors produced by the Medical College, University of Ibadan. The donations were coming in trickles. 1 million naira here 200,000 there. Until it got to the turn of Dr. Philip O. Ozuah(attached in the picture), an old student of the college who is currently the President and CEO of Montefiore Medicine in New York. Philip Ozuah did not say too much as he went straight to the point of making a donation of $1,000,000 (700,000,000). In his words, UI’s medical college shaped and refined him into the man he is today, so he has the duty to give back to the school. When Dr. Philip announced the $1,000,000 donation, all of the old students in the zoom session began shouting, "Wow!" Wow, like an ambulance’s siren. Even the dean, who called the zoom meeting, was speechless as she did not see that coming. None of the old students of the medical college could donate again since Ozuah had set a standard they could not match. From shouting Wow! Wow! The Zoom fundraising meeting came to an end with the closing prayer said immediately. It should be noted that Ozuah had his medical degree certification at the University of Ibadan and did his internship at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital before he proceeded to Southern California for his Master's program and got his PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Let no one deceive you; legit money is good and makes life very easy to live and navigate. Copied

OF JUDGES, LAWS AND JUSTICE

It did not come as a surprise when the President of NBA Olumide Akpata reacted to the out-cry of the 14 Justices of the Supreme Court through a protest letter for justice, to the Chief Justice Tanko Muahmmad, JSCN. S.6 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) like other previous constitutions gave the third arm of government, the Judiciary an independent status. That is the ideal situation that enhances separation of powers, as propounded by early constitutional philosophers like Montesquieu. However, practical experience has shown that it never had independence even though students and the public are thaught and to believe that the Judiciary is "independent". As a public institution the Judiciary depended on the public, especially the Bar to defend that status, because it would be seen to have lost that independence if it had to fight for itself at every front. Therefore the burden to protect the independence of the Judiciary is a Corporate Social Responsibility of the public. Without that there's a vacuum that exposes the Judiciary to the frontline. This burden to "give back" to society now behoves on Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), litigants, constitutional lawyers, human rights activists and the public Interest defenders as stakeholders to rise up to the occasion, with the hindsight that 'm'Lords' obviously have been groaning silently before they blew the lid. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a former President of NBA Olisa Agbakoba fought for financial independence of the Judiciary to the Supreme court. After serving as a member of Confab 2014 he left his earnings to Federal Government (Executive) instead of the Judiciary. According to Patrick Devlin of blessed memories, author of "Enforcement of Morals" there are issues bordering on consiceince that are beneficial to society generally which are protected collectively like the silent Justices. Amidst all these prominent politicians afford N100 million for party nomination forms which are campaign slots since they're almost sure they wouldn't catch the nomination ticket because of the avalanche of competitors for the ticket. They would have made headlines nationwide if some of them decided for act of corporate social responsibility with a fraction or all the ticket/nomination jumbo bill. However, if they're not in the positive frame of mind being advocated here, they tacitly allign with PMB (Executive) who believes that the Judiciary is not helping his administration. So we're now at a crossroads of 'judging the judges ' #corporateleaders IKECHUKWU O.
