The Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference 2025 concluded yesterday, August 29, in Enugu—capping a dynamic week of engagement under the theme “Stand Out, Stand Tall.”
Highlights from the final sessions included:
A hard-hitting panel on “Unbundling Tax Reforms,” which explored sweeping changes in Nigeria’s tax architecture—balancing revenue generation with fairness and SME sensitivity. The dialogue underscored the importance of simplification, digitalization, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure transparency and equitable implementation.
A powerful collaboration between UNICEF and the NBA on reforming child-sensitive justice. The session “Ending Child Detention: The Role of NBA in Advancing Justice and Reintegration” reinforced their shared commitment to alternatives to detention, legal aid access for children, and full enforcement of the Child Rights Act across the federation. It was a vivid reminder that justice must protect the vulnerable—not punish them.
Why This Matters:
This year’s AGC reflected the NBA’s ambition not just to convene—but to catalyze action, championing rule of law, inclusive reforms, and justice—especially for those often sidelined. These discussions, grounded in policy and ethical practice, affirm the NBA’s leadership in national legal thought and reform.
Different strokes for different folks. A lot of valuable information were produced and need time to figest. Meanwhile I want to assess reader's appreciation or concerns.
Which session resonated most with you? or How can we sustain momentum beyond the conference?
The presence of Pavilion and its CEO, Ope Olugasa with digital innovations for law firms was a boost.
It was interesting for many participants joined the AGC 2025 through zoom.
Now, moving forward here's a poser:
How would IP values on artistic works and other non-fungible items now protected with Blockchains instead of legal protection through lawyers stand in terms of jobs prior meant for the profession?
Do well to give your thoughts.
