WOULD YOU PREFER WORK FROM HOME TO PHYSICAL WORK PLACE?

Your answer should not be that of your colleague or neighbor. The reason is not farfetched. Location, commute,  circumstances, motivation, ambiance, lifestyle, rewards etc influence choices and options.

However, the debate about hybrid workplace options has been raging as an off-shoot of global onslaught against COVID-19 pandemic. While in real life (IRL) has remained the traditional, capitalist model and the status quo, a new model work culture was birthed as a result of lockdown and other policies put in place globally to combat COVID-19 which came to be known as the new normal.  Therefore it became 'new normal' for employees or everyone to avoid traditional businesses/workplaces, yet perform work activities at home.

It also became new normal for companies and employers to provide alternative office space and tools, appliances and devices to their employees who have been 'forced' to work from home. Work from home is fast becoming adventurous floodgate which some companies like Spotify has adopted for their employees across the globe.

This phenomenon has increased the advent of work-at-home syndrome that has become 21st century lifestyle and work style. Whether part-time or full-time, more and more people are opting to work remotely.  This feature has been commended as a measure of social progress and necessary component of thriving entrepreneurship.

Different comments and analysis have been proferred for and against each option and a hybrid of options. Where do you stand in all of these?

The poser has been graphically constructed thus:

In Real Life (IRL) V. Remote work, striking a balance.

IRL has more stress and distractions; less productive than remote work. Raises issues of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. IRL has propensity to induce toxic staff relationships. Decision about suitable options requires surveys, feedback and open discussion not in a silo. However, different hybrid options for different companies.

On the other hand who cares if you have more than one job .. that doesn't breach any labour law, unless specifically prohibited by a particular contract of employment.

Imagine working from home, applied for maternity leave; spent the period and just one morning got management email welcoming you back to work, then you resume at home...

As a result of these changes taking place technological innovations are reflecting these choices. In other words whichever option you make would surely have it's economic value with it.

We all have the inert ability to learn, grow and develop. Don't be a victim of the negative consequences of the changing work model.

How ..?

If your employers adopted work from home policy and you haven't upgraded your digital skills, guess what happens ...

We at IDEA WORKSHOP are offering you work from home training to equip you with relevant skills at your pace and convenience. DM for details.

Your progress.

SKILLS, TECHNOLOGY AND COMPENSATION

SKILLS, TECHNOLOGY AND COMPENSATION

The shabby treatment of Immigrant workers in Qatar has drawn world's attention. These guys offered their services to prepare qatarworldcup2022 and were not adequately rewarded.  Some of them skilled, others not but the shame's uncalled for.

This is coming after 'Future of Jobs Report, World Economic Forum' that about 50% of all employees will need reskiling by 2025, as the adoption of technology increases.

Quite pathetic you may say.  Keep emotions out. See, it's either you reskill and be abreast with technology, or wither away or be treated shabbily.

Get this shocking fact straight.  In the next Mundiale these unskilled workers would have no chance or services to offer.  Reason: technology would have decimated the number of human contribution needed.

So lots of teaching to erase  Tech-knowledge deficit. That brings to fore teaching jobs needed and that's why today, 5th October every year is celebrated as World's Teachers Day. Don't miss the opportunity to join our teaching group on this platform.

THE CONSTANCY OF CHANGE

#corporateleaders

Just got up, and not quite feeling to start my daily routines but a glance at the headlines jolted me.  "Elon Musk displaces Jeff Bhezeos to become the world's richest person".

I thought that's expected. Who wouldn't foresee that, in these days when fluctuation in Bitcoins price makes you the richest in the morning and perhaps poorer in the evening.  A lot of people have been the legendary number 1, but change kept them where you find them today. Then a snap. Later in the day, having read full report a few more issues came to my mind.

For instance unconfirmed media reports revealed that Jeff Bhezeos just had a divorce, which took about $43 billion alimony to his erstwhile spouse.

Wealth creation and philanthropy are close associates. The former is usually the products of enterprise, economy and heritage.  While the latter is as a result of acts of benevolence due to sympathy for humanity, causes and or desire to change the status quo positively.

Virtually everyone likes to associate with individual and human progress. It satisfies human desires, as well as boosts egos and social status. In response society and communities celebrate the the wealthy, the rich and the affluent. These phenomena are corroborated by Hollywood, Nollywood, Bollywood and other 'wood' video films.

While some pursuit of wealth creation are strictly profit maximization endeavors, which don't allow dilution of that goal, others deploy some chunk of the wealth to humanitarian and developmental causes. This latter act is corporate social responsibility.

Acts of corporate social responsibility is like caring for those you met while ascending the ladder, because you might need them when you're descending.

Corporate institutions' response of competition is just natural. Everyone likes a jolly good friend. Every business entity as much as individuals, would like to be seen on the scoreboard of corporate social responsibility.

Therefore the convention of ranking them and their donors by Bloomsberg, Forbes, Fortune etc. emerged. The desire, the tempo and clamor to be recognized went high.

It has become part of our social life and for some a lifestyle to check 'whoruns' to find out who change has made the richest and watch for him/her to be replaced the next morning.

Today, it has become the norm for the richest persons to be evaluated according to their acts of corporate social responsibility, even though that affects their ranking.  Perhaps that explains why Bill Gate's name has been missing for some time now.

WORLD TOURISM DAY

#corporateleaders

This year's World Tourism Day was celebrated on 27th September, 2022 with the theme 'Rethinking Tourism'.

Unless you're in an employment, for most of us taking a vacation doesn't sound real, especially when you have to travel with some luxuries.

But for quite a lot of people in entrepreneurship, vacation and tourism are part and parcel of the enterprise. Imagine working for two-thirds of the year and spend a third touring and enjoying life. It's possible. Unluck your entrepreneurial mindset.

It would shock you to discover why it takes almost a lifetime to start what mentorship should have achieved for you, if you had opted for it earlier. Afterall many successful entrepreneurs still have the urge to go for one mentorship program or the other.

Participate in our skills acquisition training that commences on 4th October, 2022 and discover how far you'd have gone.

Your progress.

HAVE YOU LOST LUGGAGE(S) WHILE TRAVELING WITH ANY AIRLINE?

Seated in an aircraft soon after the plane has taken off the voice you hear would be the Pilot "Welcome on board XYZ Airways flight A58 with Captain Edward your Pilot/King Co-pilot. This flight takes five and half hours. We expect to land at Heathrow airport 7 pm local time. As soon as we get to a convenient level you'd be served your meal. Thank you for flying XYZ Airline". Typically while the announcement was going on you take a quick inventory of your check-in labels, tickets, receipts and others boarding documents. And you assured yourself that everything is in place ready for your landing and smooth check out. Very often this presumption becomes an illusion. During one of my trips to and fro abroad as a student, I lost luggages that I claimed for. Unfortunately, it did not only take a long time to process but I also failed to recover anything including the cost of pursuing the remedy. The lost luggages, airline and claims were domiciled in Nigeria. Unless you take direct flights to your destination chances that you lose your luggage(s) and you file lost luggage claims at their customers service department or call center. How to make claims for luggage(s) lost while traveling with an airline. Airlines are responsible for lugages of their passengers using tracking systems. Make sure you have your ticket numbers, receipts and baggage labels intact. According to Washington Post report from January to September 2019 2 3 million bags were either lost or damaged. During the same period in 2021 the figure was 1.36 million Although luggage policies of airlines differ, most of them pay compensation 24 hours after the report of the missing luggage. The sum may be cost of checking the luggage, contingency expenses or the value of the lost luggage but don't expect the market value. Some airlines pay $50 a day for the first five days of reporting the loss. The airlines are under obligation to pay monetary compensation for delayed, lost or damaged luggages, which may be up to $3,800. However, international flights have different rules applying to them even though their liability may as high as $1,780. The bargain of airlines could higher but not compellable by law. In 2007, Mr Prince Ikem Orji passenger of China-bound Emirates Airlines lost his hand luggage containing$1.63 million cash. When the airline failed to trace it the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the airline to pay the sum lost to him. Does that add to your travels knowledge? Okay, don't take these for granted; your position is enhanced by purchasing insurance cover. Please if there's any airline's passengers care/services that have exceeded the standards adopted in this report DM such updates. Safe journey God is in control. Ikechukwu O.
